The Abortion PillRU-486 / Mifeprex / mifepristone

Authorized up to the 10th week (70th day) but typically used within 4 to 7 weeks after last menstrual period. The procedure usually requires three office visits.

  • Day 1 for first medication

  • 24-28 hours for second medication

  • Day 7 to 14 for final check-up

RU486 will not work in the case of an ectopic pregnancy. This is a potentially life-threatening condition in which the embryo lodges outside of the uterus, usually in the fallopian tube. If not diagnosed early, the tube may burst, causing internal bleeding and in some cases, the death of the woman. If you think you have an ectopic pregnancy, please go the emergency room or call your physician. source

1st Trimester Aspiration12 weeks and under

This surgical procedure is done early in the pregnancy. A long, thin tube is inserted into the uterus. Then, a large syringe is attached to the tube and the embryo is suctioned out.

Dilation & Evacuation13 weeks or more

This is the most common surgical abortion procedure. Because the baby is larger, the doctor must first stretch open the cervix using metal rods. Opening the cervix may be painful, so local or general anesthesia is typically needed.

After the cervix is stretched open, the doctor inserts a hard plastic tube into the uterus and the then connects this tube to a suction machine. The suction pulls the fetus’ body apart and out of the uterus. The doctor may also use a loop-shaped knife called a curette to scrape the fetus and fetal parts out of the uterus. (The doctor may refer to the fetus and fetal parts as the “products of conception”).

Healing

If you are suffering from a past abortion experience, we are here to help. Our peer counselors have also experienced abortion(s) and have received healing and forgiveness.

Everyone deals with the after-effects of abortion differently. There may not be any physical evidence a baby ever existed. There might not be a place to go and grieve. You may feel you have no right to grieve because you made the choice. But, how one chooses to deal with the grief changes them.

If you are at a point in your life where you feel guilt or shame and would like someone to talk to without feeling judged, please call us. We are here for you. We offer a place of healing, love, and support.

The following is a testimony from one our peer counselors.

Years after my abortion, it began to haunt me. I began having nightmares of the abortion itself. Watching my other children grow I began to wonder what my child would have looked like, what would he have become!

I kept my past abortion from my friends, my kids, and my husband. As the years continued, I was having so much pain. The guilt and shame began penetrating deep in my heart and mind. I prayed to God that He would take the guilt, shame, and hurt away. BUT, God knew I needed more than that. He had a plan. God tried to get me to A Choice 2 M8K several different times to seek help. I ran the opposite direction every time. Afraid of all the “What if’s.” When I was at my lowest and tired of fighting alone, I went to A Choice 2 M8K. I found out that there is healing through confession. My freedom began, as I was able to take steps with other women who experienced the same hurt, guilt and shame that I had.

God knew what He was doing. Now, 6 years later I’m able to help others walk through their steps of freedom. God has allowed me to share my story with my family and friend. They all have been very supportive of me. Because of my past abortion, not only can I walk with the women who need freedom but also I have been blessed to have the opportunity to help young ladies choose life for their unborn baby. God can take our worst mistakes and turn them into something beautiful.
